SAARC has been largely paralysed due to India-Pakistan tensions, with the 19th SAARC Summit (scheduled for 2016 in Islamabad) indefinitely postponed. India has shifted focus to sub-regional initiatives like BBIN (Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal) and BIMSTEC as functional alternatives.
